Notably, during the partition, crores of Hindus of erstwhile East Pakistan(present day Bangladesh) became refugees. They came to India, distressed, leaving everything behind. Then, Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee fought for their rights. He arranged refugees camp near Sealdah Station. As numerous numbers of Hindu refugees came to India, particularly West Bengal through trains.

But, Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee's fight for the Hindu refugees had been never recognised. Left front leaders mocked him, criticised him and labelled him as a 'communal leader.' But, Hindu Samhati's founding president Sri Tapan Kumar Ghosh first raised the issue and reminded Hindus of West Bengal that they are now living freely only because of Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee. He said, "If he not divided Pakistan and created West Bengal, then Hindu Bengalis have faced atrocities, which cureenly Hindu minorities are facing."
