Yesterday, Hindu Samhati, a West Bengal-based human rights organisation, organised a program at Auditorium Hall of The National Library in Kolkata in remembrance of the "Great Calcutta Killings" and the historic Hindu resistance afterwards led by legendary Hindu warrior of erstwhile Bengal province Sri Gopal Mukherjee, popularly known as 'Gopal Patha'.

In presence of workers and supporters from different districts, the day was remembered with full emotion. Apart from the top leadership of Hindu Samhati including President Sri Shantanu Singha, Sri Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition, West Bengal Legislative Assembly and Sri Gobinda Chandra Pramanik, Secretary General, Bangladesh Jatiyo Hindu Mahajot, were also present in the program. Swami Pradiptanandaji Maharaj of Bharat Sevasharm Sangha was another notable presence in the program.

In his speech, Sri Suvendu Adhikari pointed out the Muslim appeasement policies of the present TMC govt. in West Bengal and its effect on the lives of the common Hindus of West Bengal. "To save the dignity of Hindus, we have to unitedly fight the Jihadi elements," he said while also pointing out the Muslim infiltration problem in West Bengal in his speech.

Gobinda Pramanik, a well-known Hindu leader of Bangladesh, expressed the plight of Hindu and other minorities and their incessant fight for rights and dignity in Muslim-majority Bangladesh. "We have to take inspiration from Devi Maa Durga. We must embed in ourselves how Devi Durga killed Asuras. We have to identify the present day Asuras and to save our Dharma and dignity of our daughters and we have to destroy them," he said.

Swami Pradiptanandaji Maharaj pointed the rapid demography change in different parts of West Bengal and the unreported persecution of Hindus in remote areas of West Bengal. He appealed to the Hindu youths of West Bengal, "Take inspiration from Gopal Mukherjee and build Hindu resistance in every villages, towns. The situation of present day West Bengal is like the situation of 1946's undivided Bengal. Then, Gopal Mukherjee saved Hindus of Bengal, today you all have to take that responsibility."

Notably, on 16th of August of 1946, Muslim League led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah announced "Direct Action Day" in demand of Pakistan. For next two to three days, Kolkata (erstwhile Calcutta) witnessed one of worst Hindu pogroms of our long, blood-soaked history. The Statesman newspaper labelled that Hindu pogrom "The Great Calcutta Killing".

Then Chief Minister of undivided Bengal, Muslim League's Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy made the police force inactive and played a central role in the mass murder and rape of Hindus. But after the initial days, Hindus of Bengal led by Gopal Mukherjee mounted a fierce Hindu resistance and left the Islamist hordes pleading for truce in many parts. But, our left-liberal 'historians' neglected him and his role in the heroic Hindu resistance.

Hindu Samhati, founded by Sri Tapan Kumar Ghosh started this annual programme on August 16, 2012 to memorialize the anti-Hindu pogrom of 1946 called the "Great Calcutta Killings" and the historic Hindu resistance led by Gopal Mukherjee.
